Nature-inspired Shards and Pebbles Necklace
Nature-inspired Shards and Pebbles Necklace
This nature-inspired necklace is made using Sterling Silver PMC (Precious Metal Clay); rolled, cut to shape, and textured lightly to look like the surface of Deer Isle, Maine granite. Small balls of 24k gold are pushed into the clay surface, interspersed with smaller balls of sterling silver. When completely dry, cleaned up and ready to be fired, it is placed in a small jewelry kiln where it is fired at 1650°F for two hours. After firing, it is oxidized to create contrast between the silver and gold.
Measures approx. 3" long by 1" wide, and hangs from an 18" oxidized sterling silver neck cable threaded through two handmade bails on the back.
The second photo shows the inspiration for this one of a kind piece – two shards spotted on my daily walk with my Standard Poodle, Max. The shape of the shards, their color, and the tiny pebbles between them clearly said they “would make an interesting piece of jewelry” to me!
